By Published and last updated

Play PC Games With Your Wii Controllers!

If you love using your Wii controllers and would like to utilize them to play games on your Windows 10 PC or laptop, this is a simple process that can be accomplished. You will be able to play your PC games in comfort and without the need for a keyboard or mouse in this manner. If you want to play with a friend, you may connect two Wii controllers to your computer at the same time. Bluetooth will be required in order to connect your Wii controller to your computer running Windows 10. If your computer does not have Bluetooth built in, you may alternatively use a Bluetooth adaptor to connect to the Internet.

To connect your Switch Joy-Cons to your Windows 10 PC or laptop:

1. Go to the Windows Start menu and type Control Panel into the search box. Control Panel should be opened. 2. Select Devices and printers from the drop-down menu. 3. Select Add a device from the drop-down menu. Press the 12 buttons on your Wii controller at the same time (or take of the battery cover at the back of the controller and press the little red sync button) 4. The lights on the controller will now begin to flash, and the text Nintendo-RVL-CNT-01 will appear on your computer monitor.

You will now be given the chance to input a passcode; leave it blank and select the next button.

Your PC will now begin to install your controller, and your controller should begin to flash presently.

Prerequisites:

  • Wiimote drivers written by Julian Löhr (available here)
  • WiiPair.exe
  • A application that converts joystick controls into keyboard shortcuts. AntiMicro is the program I use because it is free and open source, butJoyToKeyis another option. A Windows 10 machine with Bluetooth and a safe boot-off option is available! The use of non-signed drivers has become increasingly difficult in recent versions of Windows 10. Please refer to your user manual for instructions on how to disable secure boot. In addition to a Wiimote, of course.

RunBcdedit.exe -set TESTSIGNING ON from an elevated command prompt after installing the necessary software and software updates. Restart the computer, and then perform the following steps to pair the Wiimote:

  1. Open the Wiimote’s battery cover and push the red “SYNC” button on the controller. To complete step 4, launch WiiPair.exe and keep hitting any button on the wii remote (except SYNC) until the process is completed. If the LEDs on the Wiimote remain steady after WiiPair indicates that one Wiimote has been linked, proceed to step 5
  2. Otherwise, proceed to step 6. If the LEDs do not become solid, press ‘Ctrl + R’ and type ‘devmgmt.msc’ into the search box that appears. Check to be that you’re not turning off the Wiimote by pushing the buttons on the controller too long
  3. Bluetooth HID Device should be visible in the Human Interface Devices section of the Device Manager window, which is accessible from the Start menu. “Update Drivers” may be found by right-clicking on it and selecting “Search from my computer,” “Select from list,” and then “Wiimote Device.” If everything goes according to plan, the LEDs should turn solid. The words are being translated in my brain from Korean, so if anyone knows what they are, please let me know.) Open AntiMicro (or JoyToKey) and begin mapping the buttons on the controller to the corresponding buttons on the computer.

How to Use Your Wii Remote on Your PC As a Game Controller and More

Hello! The following instructions will show you how to connect your Wii Remote to your PC. You have arrived at the correct location. You will be able to do the following by the conclusion of this guide:

  1. Make use of your Wii Remote to act as a gaming controller. Make advantage of your Wii Remote to act as a mouse. Create your own custom keybindings for your Wii Remote by following the instructions here. (As long as the application makes use of the keyboard and mouse, it may be mapped to the Wii Remote)

First and foremost, before we get into the specifics of how to do so, here are some resources that you will want before we begin. You will require the following materials:

  1. A Wii Remote from Nintendo. In this case, I am using an older model that does not have the Plus feature, but if you have a newer one, it should still function. A computer that is equipped with a Bluetooth adapter. (If your computer does not come with a built-in Bluetooth adapter, you can purchase an external Bluetooth adapter from Amazon.com.)
  2. There are a few of free Wii Remote programs that will be addressed in further depth later

A few of cautionary notes: This tutorial is intended just for individuals who use personal computers. If you use a Mac or another operating system, this information will not be useful to you in any way. Because it is the operating system that I am using, the instructions and illustrations will be tailored especially to Windows 10. It is possible for older versions to follow along, but there is no assurance that the procedure I go through will be the same as yours.

Step 1: Downloading the Wii Remote Drivers

In the event that you attempted to connect your Wii Remote to your PC right now, you would discover that Microsoft would attempt to load the incorrect drivers for it. However, thanks to the efforts of a game developer by the name of Julian Löhr, PCs now have the ability to identify the Wii Remote controller. His webpage may be found at the following address: You will need to download either the Windows 64-bit version or the Windows 32-bit version depending on your system. 64-Bit Version: This version is available in 64-bit format.

In the event that you are using a 64-bit version of Windows and/or get an issue when attempting to connect your Wii Remote, proceed to the next section. If this is not the case, the following step may be skipped.

Step 2: Disabling Driver Signature Enforcement

NOTE: If you do not have Windows 64-bit installed or if you do not receive the driver signature error, you may choose to skip this step. Because this driver was not created by Microsoft, it will not be recognized by your computer. The driver signature enforcement feature will need to be turned off in order to be bypassed. Start by searching for “recovery” without the quotations in the Windows search box, and then selecting “Recovery choices.” 2.Click on the “Restart Now” button. (NOTE: If you click on this option, your computer will restart immediately; therefore, make a note of the next instructions before continuing.) 3.After restarting the computer, select “Troubleshoot” from the “Advanced Options” menu and then “Startup Settings.” To disable driver signature enforcement, restart the computer and then hit the number seven key when requested.

The only change is that the driver signature has been removed, which means we may now use the drivers that we downloaded, at least until we restart it.

Points to keep in mind:

  • It is possible to restore regular operation of your Windows by restarting it
  • Therefore, if you want driver signatures to be enforced once more, a restart will do the work. Every time you want to connect your Wii Remote, you’ll have to go through the same procedure all over again. If you want to permanently stop driver signature enforcement, you may do so by following the procedures outlined below.

Driver signatures can be permanently disabled by doing the following steps: 1. Launch the Windows Command Prompt by pressing the Windows key + R. (Look for CMD in the lower left corner of the Windows Search Bar.) 2. Type the following onto your computer: The command Bcdedit.exe -set TESTSIGNING ON3 is used to turn on testing. To restart your computer, type the command “restart”.

Step 3: Connecting Your Wii Remote to Your PC

So, now that we have all of the drivers downloaded and your PC has been turned off of driver signature enforcement (for 64-bit only), all that is left is to connect your Wii Remote to your PC! 1. Run the “TinyInstaller.exe” file to begin the installation of the driver. Please keep in mind that this software requires administrative privileges to execute. 2. After that, check your applications and features to determine if the driver was successfully installed. Check to check that the software appears in the list as depicted in the image above before continuing.

  1. 3.
  2. Enable Bluetooth on your device and keep this window open.
  3. Flip your Wii Remote over and press the red sync button on the left side.
  4. Return to the Bluetooth window and search for a device with the name “Nintendo RVL-CNT-01” to link with.
  5. If you are requested for a passcode, click next without inputting any digits, then click cancel to exit the window.
  6. 8.
  7. If the lights on your Wii Remote appear to be identical to the ones in the image above, then pairing has been accomplished!

Alternatively, if the device does not have any lights and the Bluetooth settings indicate that it is linked, delete the item from the Bluetooth settings and attempt attaching it again.

Step 4: Getting Your Wii Remote to Work As a Game Controller

Assuming our Wii Remote has been successfully linked to our PC, let’s use another application to map out the Wii Remote inputs as keyboard inputs so that they may be used to play PC games. 1.You may get the free version of JoyToKey: my Wii Remote profile here: When you have finished downloading my profile, save it in the same area as the JoyToKey application. 4. Launch the JoyToKey application. On the left-hand side of the screen, you will find a profile named Wii Remote Game.

  • 5.
  • As you can see on the right column, I created the fundamental Up, Down, Left, and Right arrows, which correlate to the equivalent arrows on the computer keyboard.
  • Consider the following scenario: a game needs you to jump using the “Z” key, and we wish to leap by hitting the number 1.
  • Check that you are in the “Keyboard” tab and then click on the first “Disabled” rectangle that appears on the screen.
  • If you type Z, you should see the letter Z appear in the box.
  • 9.The inputs should function properly after minimizing JoyToKey.
  • (Take note of the up, down, left, and right arrows.) Input is done using the Wii Remote held horizontally, with the Dpad on the left side and the 1, 2, and 3 buttons on the right side.)

Step 5: Using Your Wii Remote As a Mouse and Beyond

As a result, we have our Wii Remote configured to function as a gaming controller. Is it possible to use it as a mouse in this case? 1.Click here to get my Wii Remote Mouse Profile, which will be saved in the JoyToKey folder. 3.Start the JoyToKey application. (Note: If the application is already open and you transfer the file to a different location inside the same folder, the software will not update until you restart it.) The “Wii Remote Mouse” is located in the left column of the screen. (Please note that left-clicking the profile name will switch between profiles once JoyToKey has been minimized.) 5.Keep the JoyToKey software to a bare minimum.

  1. You should hold it in the same way you would a TV remote, and you should use the DPad to move the mouse up and down, the A button to left click, the B button to right click, and the Minus button to Alt+Tab.
  2. By adjusting the parameters, you may make it even better and tailor it to your preferences.
  3. 7.The mouse’s left and right movement is controlled by the slider, which is located in the upper left corner.
  4. A same principle applies to the vertical column, which decides whether the mouse is moved up or down.

Mouse clicks, such as the left and right clicks, are depicted in the image below. The Wii Remote may be programmed to control any of these functions. You are free to explore and experiment with the remaining settings!

1 Person Made This Project!

During a 6-month period, I built and implemented the HID Wiimote driver as part of my bachelor thesis, which was completed in a few months. Even if you connect your Wii Remote to a PC through Bluetooth as is customary, you will be unable to use it correctly right out of the box. Problem is that Windows is unable to properly manage it and hence does not disclose any input buttons or axes. A solution to this type of problem was the subject of my Bachelor’s thesis. There are several applications that map the Wii Remote buttons to keyboard keys, making it appear as though a key has been struck on the computer’s keyboard.

Every Wii Remote is recognized as a native game controller, as they should be, thanks to my driver, which resolves this issue.

Dialog with the driver about the properties The Nunchuck, Classic Controller, and Classic Controller Pro Extensions are all supported by the driver.

When an Extension is plugged in or out, the button and input mapping are dynamically changed to reflect this.

Latest Changes

  • Improve your software by upgrading to Visual Studio 2017 with the most recent Fall Creators Update SDK and WDK (10.0.16299)
  • Add a handler for unhandled exceptions to the Control Center’s code. Fix number 38: Change the unit of measure from Radians to Degrees. Fix 40: Switch the whammy bar and touchbar mapping on the guitar from RX and RY to Z and RZ
  • And Fix 41: When using the Nunchuck, the home button is mapped to the incorrect output.

Install Instructions for HID Wiimote

  1. Check to see that you have the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2017 installed (64 Bit Download, 32Bit Download) before continuing. Download the HID Wiimote driver package that corresponds to your operating system. Remove the files from their packaging
  2. “ControlCenter.exe” should be launched. Using this method, the HID Wiimote Installer will be launched. Enable “Test Mode” if desired (this will necessitate a reboot). Install the certificate on your computer. Install the “Device Driver” on your computer. After that, shut the Installer in order to bring up the Control Center. Connect your Wii Remote or Wii U Pro Controller to your computer via the USB cable. Leave the PIN field blank. Alternatively, if Windows does not accept an empty PIN request, seeskip PIN request. If Windows is still using the default driver, check the section below for instructions on how to change the driver. Using the Control Center, choose a device and apply the settings to it. Start treating your Wii Remote as if it were a standard gaming controller.

Uninstall Instructions

  • Open the HID Wiimote Control Center by pressing the HID Wiimote Control Center button. Open the Installer Window by selecting Tools-Installer from the menu bar. Remove the driver package from your computer. Alternatively, go to the Windows “Programs and Features” settings. Open “Apps and Features” on Windows 10 and scroll down to the Related settings section. It appears that the “Apps and Features” section is not currently operational. Uninstall “HID Wiimote 0.X.Y.Z” by searching for it on your computer’s hard drive.

Known Issues

  • When you turn off the Wii Remote or move out of the Bluetooth range, Windows will not recognize that the Wii Remote has been turned off or removed. When shutting down Windows, the Wii Remote Device will not be ejected and will remain in the system upon subsequent startup. Each time the Wii Remote device becomes unplugged, you must manually unplug it from Windows Devices and reconnect it. Ensure that the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2017 (64 Bit Download, 32 Bit Download) is installed before attempting to start the HID Wiimote Control Center. If the HID Wiimote Control Center displays an error or does not start at all, check the following: When utilizing other Bluetooth devices, they may become inoperable until the Wii Remote is removed from the equation. Other programs that require direct communication with the Wii Remote (for example, Dolphin Emulator) may not function properly. Bluetooth Stacks that use proprietary APIs, such as Toshiba’s, are incompatible with one other. It is possible that Driver Signature Verification will be a difficult requirement for certain AntiCheat engines.

Driver Signature Verification

Unfortunately, I do not currently possess a Code Signing Certificate. As a result, for 64-bit systems, the Driver Signature Verification must be turned off as well. Otherwise, Windows will not be able to load the driver. The Driver Signature Verification can be turned off permanently or only for a single restart, depending on your preference (after an additional restart it is active again).

Permanently deactivate Driver Signature Verification

Start the HID Wiimote Control Center by pressing the Start button. Open the HID Wiimote Installer by selecting Tools – Installer from the main menu. Test Mode should be enabled in the installation window, and your system should be rebooted. You may also manually enable Test Mode if you prefer that option. Create a CMD window with administrative privileges. Afterwards, use the following command to restart your system. The command Bcdedit.exe -set TESTSIGNING ON is used to enable testing.

One Time Deactivation

There are several actions that must be completed in order to disable the Driver Signature Verification. Those are different in Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 and later versions of the operating system. You should save all of your work since you will need to restart your computer. Windows 7 is a computer operating system.

  1. Your computer should be restarted. After the BIOS has finished loading and before Windows begins to boot, press F8 to access the “Advanced Boot Options” for Windows (similar to when you are attempting to enter “safe mode”). Select “Disable Driver Signature Enforcement” from the drop-down menu.

Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 are both available.

  1. Open the Charms Bar and select a charm. Select “Settings” and then “Change PC settings” from the drop-down menu. Select “Update and recovery” from the drop-down menu and click on the “Recovery” tab. Under “Advanced Startup,” choose “Restart Now” from the drop-down menu. After restarting the computer, select “Troubleshoot.” Select “Advanced settings” from the drop-down menu. Select “Startup Settings” from the drop-down menu. Select “Restart” from the drop-down menu. 7: Select “Disable driver signature enforcement,” which is the last option on the menu.

Windows will now start in a Testing Mode, and a little watermark may appear in the bottom right corner of the screen. After a second restart, Windows returns to its default configuration, which means you must disable Driver Signature Verification each time you wish to use the driver.

Skip PIN Request

If you are using Windows 10 Creators Update or above, you will not be able to bypass the PIN entry screen in “Settings – Bluetoothother devices.” Although it is not necessary, scroll down to “Related Settings” and choose “Devices and Printers” in order to link your Wii Remote.

Its “Add a device” dialog box continues to accept a PIN that is not filled in. The “Devices and Printers” window may also be accessed by right-clicking on the Bluetooth system tray and selecting “Join a Personal Area Network” from the context menu.

Switch driver

Because Windows internally ranks all viable drivers for a device based mostly on their signature, it is conceivable that the default driver for the Wii Remote will continue to be utilized. This driver rating will be carried out each time a new device is introduced to the system. This means that you must update it every time the Wii Remote is connected. As a result, it is advised that you install the certificate in order to improve its rating.

  1. Make sure that the Wii Remote is connected to the computer and that you are continually tapping a button so that the Wii Remote does not switch off
  2. Open the Device Manager and look for the “Bluetooth-HID-Device” that represents the Wii Remote in the list of devices. Right-click on it and select “Update Driver Software.” from the context menu. Select “Browse my computer for driver software” from the drop-down menu. Then, “Please allow me to choose from a list on my computer”
  3. Now choose “Wiimote Device” from the drop-down menu and press “Next”
  4. When the LEDs on the Wii Remote stop flickering and become permanently illuminated, the driver has been correctly installed.

The source code is accessible on Github: Please feel free to submit Bug Reports or even contribute to the project with a Pull Request! This section is for those of you who not only want to use HID Wiimote, but also want to see what’s going on within a driver and how I addressed the problem in the first place.

Detailed Problem

The HID protocol is used by the Wii Remote to communicate with the Wii console. HID is an input device protocol that does not require a fixed configuration. This implies that every device communicates with the host by specifying the kind of inputs and outputs it has received from that device. Consider the following example: one game controller may only have four buttons, whilst another may only have two analog sticks with no buttons; both game controllers use HID and are handled by the same driver.

At certain places, the protocol standard is broken, as is the case with the Wii Remote, which does not fully define its own capabilities.

Solution

As a result, the answer is to insert a driver somewhere between the Wii Remote and the HID Class Driver in order to correct the communication problem. This driver provides a HID-compliant gaming controller to the HID Class Driver at the top level. The HID Class Driver is linked with a minidriver, which is a fortunate coincidence. Those minidrivers are in charge of the device’s specialized communication with the transport system. For example, if the device is connected through USB, the HIDUSB driver is loaded to handle the USB-specific communication; if it is connected via Bluetooth, the HIDBTH driver is loaded to handle all of the Bluetooth-specific communication.

There are three layers to this cake.

The intermediate layer Wiimote retains the Wii Remote’s state and handles its special requirements, such as the types of answers and requests that must be handled and the manner in which they must be handled.

The top Layer HID is in charge of handling any requests from the HID Class Driver and converting the current state into a format that is compatible with the HID standard.

5. Setting up GlovePIE

Virtual reality gloves are used to operate the computer with GlovePIE, which is an application that was developed specifically for this purpose. However, it has more functions, such as the ability to collect signals from a broad variety of devices, such as the Wii Gear, and then translate those signals into movements that are similar to mouse and keyboard events. You can get GlovePIE by clicking here. Make certain that you are using the most recent version of the program. Delete any existing shortcuts to the Windows Desktop and unzip the downloaded application into the Program Files folder.

Because it is written in scripting language, you will need to learn how to use it before you can begin working with it.

GlovePIE’s main benefit is that it is extremely powerful and allows you to take advantage of the Wii remote’s entire range of capabilities. There are a variety of other apps that may be used to bind keys, including the following:

  • BlueTunes
  • WiinRemote
  • Wii Key
  • WiiMedia
  • Virtual Drum Kit
  • BlueTunes
  • Wii Media

All are necessary for the completion of Wii Remote’s capabilities and the interface with a PC, although they are not as powerful as GlovePIE in terms of performance.

Using Wii Remote as Game and Mouse Controller

Aside from that, the JoyToKey application allows you to program the remote to execute tasks that would normally be performed by a traditional PC mouse. Some examples of such activities are scrolling through a list, steering with a wheel, and aiming, among other things. You may get the program from the following link:JoyToKey

How To Connect A Wii Remote To Your PC

It will be demonstrated in this article how to connect a Nintendo Wii Remote to a Windows PC so that you may use it to play games on your computer with it. The Wii controller, developed by Nintendo, is an intriguing piece of technology. One of the most advantageous aspects about it is that it communicates through Bluetooth. Because of this, you may connect it to any computer that has Bluetooth, which is great news for us. It doesn’t matter if your computer didn’t come pre-installed with Bluetooth capability; affordable adapters may be obtained online or at your local computer store.

  1. You can do much more with the Wiimote than this, but I think this is a fantastic (and easy) application for it at this point in time.
  2. First and foremost, you must put your wiimote into discovery mode.
  3. Wiimote should have flashing blue lights at the bottom, which should indicate that it is working properly.
  4. Now, on your computer, right-click your Bluetooth icon and select Show Bluetooth Devices from the context menu.
  5. When the pop-up window (seen below) appears, click the Add button.
  6. Check to see that your wiimote’s lights are still flickering while it is searching!
  7. Select the appropriate option now.

All that’s left is GlovePIE, a program that will allow you to actually utilize your wiimote to play games!

Simply unzip the contents of the zip file into a new folder and run GlovePIE from there.

Although it appears to be complicated, it is actually rather easy.

NES emulators should be controlled by your wiimote after you press the Run button.

Because a large number of Nintendo games are playable on your computer, you may have a great deal of fun trying them out.

Take use of the many scripts that come with GlovePIE and have a good time with them!

If you found this essay useful, I would really appreciate it if you could share it on your favorite social media platform – it would be quite beneficial to me. Please consider buying me a cup of coffee if you are feeling really generous:) I would greatly appreciate it:)

Use Bluetooth to Connect a Wii Remote to a PC

Bluetooth wireless technology is used by the Wii Remote to communicate with the console. Due to the fact that many computers come with a Bluetooth adapter built in, and that Bluetooth adapter dongles are widely accessible for those who do not, connecting your PC to a Wiimote is a rather straightforward process. All you have to do is follow a few basic steps: Step 1– Inspect your device to see whether it has an integrated Bluetooth adapter. Check to see whether your computer is equipped with an internal Bluetooth adapter.

If you see a Bluetooth entry, this indicates that you have an internal adapter.

The majority of them just plug into a USB port.

Apple’s Bluetooth Stack and Linux’s BlueZ should both function correctly (make sure they are installed and turned on).

It is necessary to remove your Bluetooth stack and then install a Bluetooth stack that is compatible (e.g.

Toshiba Bluetooth Stack). The stack may be located by going to Control Panel > Hardware > Device Manager > Bluetooth Devices > Bluetooth Devices. Driver may be found by right-clicking the device and selecting Properties, then Driver. Step 3– Connect the Wii Remote to the console.

  • Bluetooth Settings should be opened. Bluetooth should be represented by an icon in the taskbar. Whether this is not the case, search under Control Panel
  • Hardware
  • Device Manager to see if it is. Select Bluetooth Devices from the drop-down menu and then “Add a Device.” To enable Discovery Mode, press and hold the 1+2 buttons on your Wiimote at the same time (the four LEDs should all blink). The Nintendo RVL-CNT device should display in the Add a Device screen as soon as it is discovered. During the Add a Device Screen, choose the Wiimote and then click “Next.” Click on “Pair Without Using a Code” to begin pairing. An alert should appear as soon as the Configuration process is complete, stating that the connection has been established.

You may now interact with the Wiimote in the same way that you would with a mouse. These connections are just temporary, and if you do not have extra pairing software, you will have to repeat the process each time you wish to connect to a new device. Additionally, you may use the Wiimote to control a PowerPoint presentation, an interactive digital whiteboard, an audio/video home entertainment system, and many other applications.
